Five-day strategy framework

Turn a week of debate into one clear decision.

A strategy sprint is not a compressed workshop calendar. It is a forcing function: one decision, the evidence behind it, the options you rejected, and the smallest next test the team will actually run.

Too many ideas

Every stakeholder has a different priority

Use a short sprint to move the debate from opinions to one shared decision and a visible set of trade-offs.

Too much building

The roadmap keeps expanding

Re-anchor the team on the business problem, evidence, and smallest test before more features become commitments.

Too little evidence

You are planning around assumptions

Turn the riskiest assumptions into questions, gather lightweight evidence, and make the next bet deliberately.

The framework

One outcome for each day

Keep the group small, protect the decision-maker’s time, and write the output every day. The sprint succeeds only if the following week becomes easier to execute.

01

Frame the decision

Agree on the business problem, target user, desired outcome, constraints, and the decision the sprint must produce. Do not start with features.

Output: A one-page decision brief
02

Collect evidence

Pull together user conversations, product data, market signals, support tickets, operational pain, and previous attempts. Label assumptions honestly.

Output: An evidence and assumptions map
03

Create options

Generate multiple ways to reach the outcome, including manual, operational, no-code, and product approaches. A sprint that produces one option is theatre.

Output: Three credible solution paths
04

Choose the smallest test

Score the options by learning value, effort, reversibility, and risk. Define the smallest experiment that can remove the biggest uncertainty.

Output: A testable first bet
05

Commit the next move

Name the owner, success signal, deadline, dependencies, and stop condition. Decisions decay quickly when ownership stays vague.

Output: A 30-day action plan

Quick self-check

Will this sprint produce action?

Use this check before inviting people. If ownership and the decision are vague, the calendar will fill up while the strategy stays fuzzy.

  • The sprint ends with a decision, not a slide deck.
  • The user and business outcome are both explicit.
  • Evidence is separated from assumptions and preferences.
  • At least three solution paths are considered.
  • The first test can be run without building the full product.
  • Success and failure signals are defined before execution.
  • One owner is accountable for the next 30 days.
  • There is a written list of what the team will not do yet.
